Barbados is a small island 26 miles
long by 14 miles at it's widest point, most accommodation's are situated on the
west and south coasts, these being the most sheltered parts of Barbados with
good beaches and easy access to the warm beautiful Caribbean sea, the north and
east coast's being very spectacular, though rugged with swimming not really
possible due to the large swells coming straight off the Atlantic Ocean! Surfing
competitions take place on the east coast this will give an indication of the
type of sea conditions.
Visitors to Barbados tend to come back
again and again as Barbados takes some beating having a very friendly people
trying their best to make your visit memorable and enjoyable. Some destinations
are very limited to the type of activities on offer, this is definitely not the
case in Barbados, the island being sophisticated with lots to offer to all
visitors regardless of what their pleasure or preference as far as what
constitutes "their ideal holiday" so if your choice is a quite
relaxing holiday or a holiday filled with daytime and night time activities,
Barbados has it all without forcing nightlife on those who like to socialize
in a more sedate manner with a few friends or family, the choice is always
yours!!!!!!!
Barbados
sits east of the chain of islands known as the Windward Islands approximately
100 miles east of St. Vincent, Barbados enjoys a very pleasant climate, not too
hot and never cold, temperature range between 25-32 Celsius 80- 94 Fahrenheit
with day time cooled by a nice sea breeze. The warmest time of the year being
summer, May to October, most rain falling in the summer season, though very
unusual for the rain to fall for any length of time, short heavy downpours
then bright sun.
Light
clothes are all that is necessary, even night temperatures are pleasant, a
jacket rarely needed although wise to bring along as some of the better
restaurants have
a dress code and jackets are required!
New
visitors to Barbados may be worried about Hurricanes, veterans to the island
knowing that these are very rare and pose no threat as a rule, the hurricane
season is from July to October and the last hurricane to do any major
damage in Barbados was Janet in 1955, Hurricanes are generated off the west
coast of Africa gathering speed and strength as they travel east towards the
West Indies and north America, veering north usually as they get close to the
large land masses missing Barbados. Sometimes Barbados gets some strong
winds and unsettled weather as the storm passes.
